Week4 Portfolio

Description

Terrain scene with a simple object made with ProBuilder in Unity.

Screenshot of the terrain scene overview taken from the simple terrain scene made by me.

Screenshot of the bench and hill pavilion from the simple terrain scene made by me.

The bench made for the earlier portfolio is also included in the scene, used ProBuilder to make a small hill pavilion for the bench to place with. The nice and simple grass is made with a Plane from Blender with 'grass' texture, then uses Terrain tool Paint Detail Mesh to paint on the ground.

Screenshot of dirt road detail taken from the same simple terrain scene above made by me.

The dirt road of the scene is used the Terrain tool Paint Texture with two layers of palettes to create this kind of gradient looking between the grass ground and the road, which is kind of nice looking.

During this task:

  • Couldn't find the Terrain Tool from Package Manager in Unity2020.2.3f1, which then I downloaded Terrain Tools Sample Asset Pack from Asset Store by Unity Technologies thought that was the Terrain Tools for newer Unity. But after I found there is a setting for Package Manager to enable to show Preview Packages, which Terrain Tools is one of the preview package and end up found it.
  • A bug has happened when painting the terrain height with Raise or Lower Terrain tool that the brush was snipped and stuck at the edge of the terrain block, swapping brush and reselect terrain gameObject is still stuck, some how fixed with restart Unity...
  • Modify the material settings of the Painted Detail Mesh(the grass) seems have no effect, I wonder how to make the grass wave with shader, and other visual effects such as player walkthrough and push the grass aside.
  • It was really not easy to edit mesh in Unity...
